# chat

Method

> This is a method of the [**AgentProtocol**](https://praison.ai/docs/sdk/reference/praisonaiagents/classes/AgentProtocol.md) class in the [**protocols**](https://praison.ai/docs/sdk/reference/praisonaiagents/modules/protocols.md) module.

Synchronous chat with the agent.

## Signature

```python theme={"theme":{"light":"vitesse-light","dark":"vitesse-dark"}}
def chat(prompt: str) -> str
```

## Parameters

**prompt** `str` *required*

The user prompt or message \*\*kwargs: Additional optional parameters (temperature, tools, etc.)

### Returns

**Returns** `str`

The agent's response as a string
